About Dr. Arvinder Singh Soin

Dr. Arvinder Singh Soin is a globally renowned Hepatobiliary and Liver Transplant Surgeon with over 40 years of medical experience, including 27 years as a specialist in liver transplantation and hepatobiliary surgery. He is a pioneer in establishing liver transplantation in India and has performed more than 2,500 liver transplants, making him one of the most accomplished transplant surgeons in the country.

He currently serves as the Chairman of the Medanta Institute of Liver Transplantation and Regenerative Medicine, where he leads one of the largest and most successful liver transplant programs in the world. Under his leadership, his team performs 16-18 live donor liver transplants per month, achieving a success rate of 95%, comparable to the best global centers. His expertise extends beyond India, with referrals from South Asia, the Middle East, and Africa.

Dr. Soin has played a critical role in developing and refining liver transplant procedures in India. His contributions include India’s first successful cadaveric liver transplant in 1998, which resulted in the country's longestsurviving liver transplant recipient. He also performed India’s first left-lobe living donor liver transplant in 1999 and the first adult-adult right-lobe living donor liver transplant in 2000. Additionally, he was the first surgeon in India to successfully perform laparoscopic donor nephrectomy, which he has since utilized in over 300 kidney transplants.

Apart from his clinical expertise, Dr. Soin is a dedicated advocate for organ donation and transplantation awareness. He is one of the founding members and a Trustee of HOPE (Human Organ Procurement and Education) Trust, a non-profit organization that works to increase awareness about brain death and organ donation, with the goal of saving thousands of lives every year. Dr. Soin has also significantly contributed to the academic and research field of liver transplantation. He has trained and mentored numerous transplant surgeons and has been an invited faculty member at some of the world's most prestigious medical institutions. He has conducted pioneering research in experimental intestinal transplantation and clinical liver transplantation, furthering advancements in the field.
